Guitar & Bass Lessons
GUITAR AND BASS LESSONS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS

Choose from private guitar (acoustic guitar and electric guitar) or bass lessons for all levels and add our Rock Band Class or Music Theory Class for the perfect music-making opportunity. Researchers agree that learning to play an instrument improves test scores, helps students with higher math achievement, and builds self-confidence. Music study also improves coordination and problem solving, increases fine motor development, and much more. Learning music also fosters the basic intrinsic value of developing a love and joy for the arts and music. Performances are available for each level of study.

PRIVATE GUITAR AND BASS LESSONS: Ages 6 and older.

In a private guitar or bass lesson, the teacher has the opportunity to help the student individually for the entire lesson time, and creates each lesson personally for the student depending on their skill level and goals. We teach all styles of music, from the traditional beginning method series-teaching approach, to reading standard notation, reading tabs and charts, playing by ear and improvisation, with pop, rock, jazz, blues, modern, alternative, shredding, classical, folk, flamenco… you name it!

We design our private guitar and bass lessons for students to progress at their own pace. Students and parents have input about the style of music they would like to work on. The parent is welcome to attend the lessons, or learn to play along with the student for FREE.

ROCK BAND CLASS SERIES: PLAY GUITAR OR BASS EACH WEEK WITH YOUR BAND!

60-Minute Weekly Band Rehearsal. The Private Guitar or Bass Lesson + Rock Band Class Combo Series at the Utah School of Music & Dance is our best value, and an extremely unique and popular series. Students have their regular private guitar or bass lesson each week, plus attend a one-hour Rock Band Class each week as well.

Rock Band classes are for beginners through advancing players on all instruments. Learn to play together as a team, master your part, and put it all together for a stage performance. Students learn about basic styles and forms each week. Students learn basic music theory ideas using examples from the songs the bands are playing. Students move ahead in their skill levels at their own pace, and the teacher assigns parts correct for each band member. Students learn and perform Classic and Modern Rock ‘n Roll hits.

Rock Band class students take part in live concerts at least three times a year: winter, spring, and summer. Perform with your band on stage with professional lighting and sound!

THE BANDS: Four age groups offered: 8-11; 12-14; 15-18; and 19 and older.

Rock Band Class: Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals, and Keyboards.

MUSIC THEORY CLASS

Music Theory for All Instruments: Levels 1 & 2

60-Minute Weekly Group Class. Learn the fundamentals of harmony by furthering your music theory background! This class is perfect for anyone who wants to learn music theory, whether they already play an instrument, or are looking to expand the depth of their musical knowledge. When the student can read basic music notation and recognize common scales, the student will then be ready to learn the fundamentals of harmony.

This essential class features hands-on exercises and ear-training activities to help the music student explore the inner workings of music, presenting notes, scales, and rhythms as one hears them in today’s music styles, as well as to help the music student use chords effectively. The student will learn basic triads and seventh chords, inversions, voice-leading, how to use chords to accompany melodies, and how to create melodies that grow out of chord progressions. The course’s book with included CD will help reinforce lessons as the student begins to build a solid musical foundation!

In this class, the student will learn to:
• Interpret chord symbols so that he or she can create grooves, melodies, and accompaniments
• Understand the harmonic building blocks of modern harmony, as used in modern, jazz, and popular music styles
• Train his or her ear to distinguish between different chord types
• Use different chord voicings to create professional-sounding harmonic progressions
• Create singable, memorable melodies

Music Theory for All Instruments, Levels 1 & 2 are essential for anyone who wants to play better, learn how to read, write, and understand the elements of music, and create their own songs and arrangements!
