This creative class is a perfect introduction for all little dancers. Not only is ballet a part of this class, but also jazz and tumbling. Children will learn basic locomotor skills, stretching, body awareness, and musicality through imagery and interactive exercises as well as classroom etiquette. This is an introduction to dance. The primary goal is to foster a love of movement. The creative component is quite large. Several fun or special activities happen in each class. For example, a scarf or flag dance can facilitate the dancer’s own physical expression. Taking part in dancing out a narrative helps children to understand that dancing is expression. It is a means of communicating feelings and actions. The vocabulary covered in Creative Preschool Dance is all steps, which a 3 & 4 year old can master and they will build self-confidence. The vocabulary is also set up to prepare students for either Beginning Combo, Beginning Ballet, or Beginning Jazz. The class length is 30 minutes, one time per week.
Our beginning ballet (or you could call it pre-ballet) class introduces young children to the basics of ballet technique. Students begin to work on alignment and posture in the body, coordination, core strength, development of the feet in turnout, and musical movement. This class includes floor work, introductory barre work, center barre, and skills moving across the floor. We will focus on one step in every exercise. The class length is 60 minutes, one time per week. (This is for 5 + year olds).
The intermediate ballet class still applies everything learned in the beginning level. Now that the students are older, we put even more concentration on alignment, coordination, turn out of legs, musicality, and and core strength. We will also introduce more on stretching for flexibility, balancing in small positions, turns, and intermediate jumps. Students should be able to keep their legs straight and point their toes during the exercises. Students will begin to learn to do multiple steps in an exercise as well as learn moving jumps. The class length is, 60 minutes, one time per week. (for ages 8+)
The advanced level class works on everything learned in previous levels. Students should be able to consistently use good core strength, alignment, and turn out. The students will stretch more intensely, begin to balance in large positions, and work on more advanced intermediate jumps. By now, the students are mature enough to apply corrections from the barre to their exercises on the floor so that we can begin to focus more on artistry, musicality, and more complex patterns of steps. The class length is 60 minutes, two times a week. (for ages 8 + and students that have danced at least 2 years.)
